Correlative studies in optical reflectance measurements of cerebral blood oxygenation
نویسندگان
چکیده
A numerical study is made of correlation development for measuring cerebral blood oxygen saturation (StO) noninvasively using optical reflectance ratio of dual wavelengths. The Monte Carlo (MC) method was used for simulating reflectance measurements in a model neck tissue, where the cerebral blood oxygenation was monitored through the blood flows in the common carotid artery (CCA) and jugular vein. Reflectance ratios between two wavelengths at 633 and 800 nm were obtained under different blood vessel conditions. The results revealed a quantifiable correlation between the reflectance ratio and the cerebral StO level. Correlations for each of the blood vessel parameters such as the location, size, and hemoglobin concentration of the CCA or jugular vein (JV) were developed. r 2005 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Parametric Study for Monitoring Cerebral Blood Oxygenation Using Dual-wavelength Optical Reflectance Measurement
A numerical study is initiated to investigate the feasibility of determining cerebral blood oxygen saturation (StO) noninvasively using optical reflectance ratio of dualwavelength measurements. The light signals are measured on the neck skin surface above the common carotid artery (CCA) and jugular vein (JV), respectively, such that the StO states for both the CCA and JV can be evaluated. A Mon...
متن کاملSimultaneous detection of blood volume, oxygenation, and intracellular calcium changes during cerebral ischemia and reperfusion in vivo using diffuse reflectance and fluorescence.
We describe an approach to measure changes in intracellular calcium along with changes in blood volume and oxygenation directly from the exposed rat cortex in vivo during cerebral ischemia and reperfusion. Measurements were made using a catheter-based optical system. The endface of a Y-shaped bifurcated fiber optic bundle was mounted on the cortical surface. It delivered the light at three wave...

We used a nonimpact inertial rotational model of a closed head injury in neonatal piglets to simulate the conditions following traumatic brain injury in infants. Diffuse optical techniques, including diffuse reflectance spectroscopy and diffuse correlation spectroscopy DCS , were used to measure cerebral blood oxygenation and blood flow continuously and noninvasively before injury and up to 6 h...

A combination of stochastic photon propagation model in a multilayered human eyelid tissue and reflectance spectroscopy was used to study palpebral conjunctiva spectral reflectance for hemoglobin (Hgb) determination. The developed model is the first biologically relevant model of eyelid tissue, which was shown to provide very good approximation to the measured spectra. Tissue optical parameters...
